Ten Lyrics To Write About
I'm thinking I'm gonna start a collection of weekly writing exercises, a lot like Chuck Wendig's Flash Fiction Challenges (which you should definitely check out). They'll be mostly self-indulgent, since I started this habit for myself, but I figured out hey, why not share the inspiration? So here goes.
Roll a d10 (or generate a random number from 1 to 10). Compare it with the list below. Write something based on the result! Share it in the comments— or not, I'm not the boss of you.
- I’ve seen your frown and it’s like looking down the barrel of a gun and it goes off. (Mardy Bum, Arctic Monkeys)
- Did the devil make the world while god was sleeping? (Little Drop Of Poison, Tom Waits)
- In the lowland plot I was free; Heaven and Hell were words to me. (Work Song, Hozier)
- Keep running. (Sing, My Chemical Romance)
- You clicked your heels and wished for me. (Northern Downpour, Panic! At The Disco)
- In every corner of that neighborhood she left little pieces of illusion. [En cada esquina de aquel barrio iba dejando pedacitos de ilusión.] (Manuela, Rubén Blades)
- Woke up on the wrong side of reality. (Young and Menace, Fall Out Boy)
- I am not the ghost that you are to me. (Carry On, Fun.)
- Fear is the hand that pulls your strings. (Smooth Sailing, Queens of the Stone Age)
- Your love’s like rhinestones, falling from the sky. (Rhinestone Eyes, Gorillaz)
Happy writing!
